one way to fight the bankers
Posted by: Roy on Monday, January 31, 2011 - 09:46 AM
Protest A computerless friend of mine, Chris Brown has asked me to circulate his suggestion about the banks which I’ve tried to summarise (from a phone conversation) below
Thanks
Roy St Pierre

‘Most of us are cross with the big banks for causing the financial crisis.
Despite the cuts we are all facing and the huge bail-out from public funds they received, bankers seem to be carrying on as usual with huge bonuses

So instead of waiting for the Government to do something, why don’t those of us with accounts with the big banks just remove them, stop them playing with our money.

So if not already a member, why not switch to the Cooperative Bank? No shareholders to pay off and while not perfect, it does at least have an ethical policy.’

For some more suggestions (from me)click below for full story

For savings and borrowing, join a Credit Union – to find the one local to you, go to http://www.findyourcreditunion.co.uk/home (you’ll probably have to cut and paste this)

Alternatively put savings in a Building Society – any is good (again no shareholders) but I would particularly recommend the Ecology Building Society.

Again if you have a mortgage with a bank, see if you can switch to a Building Society.

An alternative for savings is Triodos Bank who only lend to and invest in organisations that benefit people and environment

Or Shared Interest, an ethical investment co-operative.

Also if sick of high energy bills, at least support the 100% renewables company, Good Energy by switching to them.

and some other suggestions
if you use lots of stationary try Paperback, a worker’s cooperative

for wholefood supplies, Suma and Infinity Foods, both worker’s cooperatives or Lembas, working towards becoming a worker’s cooperative

The Phone Coop for you phone and internet access

ETA (Environmental Transport Association) for cars, motorbikes and cycle breakdown

Use your local small shops and markets, small businesses, farmers markets, veg coops, the employee owned John Lewis, Ocado & Waitrose and the Co-operative Group stores where possible

I’m sure none of the above are perfect but I would argue they are a better choice

Take your money transactions away from the profiteers!

Please forward to your address book if you agree with this.
